Minutes from the Crypto & Digital Assets All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Annual General Meeting

The Crypto and Digital Assets APPG held its AGM on 5th March 2024, where the Chair of the APPG, Lisa Cameron MP, approved arrangements for the APPG including the election of the group’s officers and an Income and Expenditure Statement.

Introduction

  1. Lisa Cameron MP welcomed attendees to the AGM.
  2. Ms Cameron provided a summary of the work of the APPG in Parliament in educating and upskilling MPs and Lords on the UK crypto and digital asset sector.
  3. Ms Cameron added that it was important that Government, regulators, Parliament and the crypto sector were able to come together to discuss key issues and consider any need for future regulation and that the APPG provided an important forum for Parliamentarians to discuss matters relating to the sector.

Election of Officers

  1. It was moved that Lisa Cameron MP would continue to serve as Chair of the APPG. All voted in favour.
  2. It was moved that ahead of the new rules requiring all APPGs to have a maximum of 4 officers from 31st March 2024 that the following Members would serve as officers of the APPG. All voted in favour.

  1. It was moved that ahead of the new rules requiring all APPGs to have a minimum of 20 members made up from either the House of Commons or the House of Lords from 31st March 2024 that the following Members of Parliament would continue to be members of the APPG (in addition to its 4 elected officers). APPG Income and Expenditure Statement
  1. The group approved its income and expenditure statement which showed that the Crypto and Digital Assets APPG has not received any direct funding.

Secretariat
  1. It was agreed that CryptoUK, as the trade body representing the UK Crypto and Digital Asset sector, would continue to support the work of the group and provide the secretariat for the APPG.

Focus of the Group
  1. The group agreed that a key focus for the group in Parliament would be increasing education and awareness of vital issues such as consumer protection and regulation, as well as looking at international best practices from other jurisdictions overseas.

Meeting Close
  1. No other business took place and the meeting concluded after 30 minutes.
