Minutes: Crypto & Digital Assets All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Inaugural Meeting

1. Introduction: Gurinder Josan MP and Lord Vaizey of Didcot welcomed attendees to the Inaugural Meeting and said that the purpose of the meeting was to formally relaunch the APPG and elect its 4 new officers.

2. Group Name: Attendees agreed the name of the Group would be ‘The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Crypto and Digital Assets’.

3. Purpose of the Group: Attendees agreed the Group’s purpose would be ‘To provide a forum for parliamentarians to discuss the challenges and opportunities relating to the growth and competitiveness of the crypto and digital assets sector and to explore the need for future regulation.’

4. Secretariat: It was agreed that CryptoUK, as the trade body representing the UK crypto and digital assets sector, would continue to support the work of the group and provide the secretariat for the APPG.

5. Election of officers:

  1. It was moved that Gurinder Josan MP would serve as Chair of the APPG and Lord Vaizey of Didcot would serve as Co-chair of the APPG. All voted in favour.
  2. It was moved that Dame Karen Bradley MP and Lord McNicol of West Kilbride would serve as officers of the APPG. All voted in favour.

6. Programme of Work: The group agreed that a key focus for the group in Parliament would be increasing education and awareness of vital issues such as consumer protection and regulation, as well as looking at international best practice from other jurisdictions overseas.

7. No other business took place and the meeting concluded after 30 minutes.
